Coaching Resources

Watch: "Fundamentals of Coaching Baseball" preview

USA Baseball -- the National Governing Body for baseball -- in partnership with The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), has developed and launched "Fundamentals of Coaching Baseball," the latest online sport-specific course in its Coaches Education Program. The course is now available online at www.nfhslearn.com.

"Fundamentals of Coaching Baseball" is hosted by George Grande, legendary Cincinnati Reds broadcaster, and is designed for interscholastic baseball coaches. The course features more than 20 instructional demonstrations from various USA Baseball National Team alumni, including current members of the Washington Nationals. The course is divided into five units: coaching philosophy, offense, defense, pitching and team strategies. These units teach the basics of catching and throwing, offensive skills and defensive tactics; offer an overview of each position's role on the field; show coaches how to develop a practice plan; and provide additional coaching tips that coaches can use to teach and help improve their teams. Additional resources, video demonstrations and references are also included within the course.

"Fundamentals of Coaching Baseball" will be a standard requirement for USA Baseball amateur National Team staff members beginning in 2013. The course, with its flexible online and mobile platforms, will also be phased in for coaches participating in USA Baseball-sanctioned events over the next several seasons.
