DURHAM, N.C. -- USA Baseball announced on Tuesday the coaching staff that will lead the 15U National Team in the 2017 COPABE Pan Am "AA" Championships in Cartegena, Colombia, highlighted by the naming of Rob Shabansky as manager. Troy Cameron, Frank Jagoda, and Victor Solis will join him on the staff.

Shabansky is a four-time USA Baseball national team coaching alum, having served as an assistant coach on the 2010 and 2011 16U National Teams and the pitching coach for the 2015 and 2016 15U National Teams. He won gold medals with both 16U squads and the 2015 15U team, and under his direction, the 2015 and 2016 15U pitching staffs recorded collective ERAs of 3.36 and 2.57, respectively. Additionally, he also served as a pitching coach for the 2016 14U National Team Development Program (NTDP). Shabansky is currently in his 12th season as the Head Coach at GateWay Community College (Phoenix, Ariz.). He led the Geckos to the NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series Championship Game in 2016.

A graduate of the University of Arizona, Shabansky was a standout pitcher for the Wildcats baseball program. As a sophomore, Shabansky led the Wildcats in wins (8) and ERA (3.86). He was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 1998 MLB First-Year Player Draft and played four seasons of professional baseball.

"We are excited to have such an experienced staff from top to bottom leading the 2017 15U National Team," USA Baseball Executive Director and CEO Paul Seiler said. "Rob's coaching resume is remarkable and we're happy to have him guide these athletes as they look to defend our back-to-back COPABE Pan American titles and qualify for the 2018 World Baseball Softball Confederation U-15 World Cup."

Joining Shabanksy on the staff as an assistant coach will be Troy Cameron. Cameron has extensive experience identifying players for USA Baseball National Teams through his work at the National Team Championships and the National Team Identification Series (NTIS). He also served as a coach at the 2016 15U National Team Trials. Currently in his third year as the Head Coach at St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Cameron led the Raiders to a USA Baseball National High School Invitational (NHSI) appearance in 2015. He was selected by the Atlanta Braves with the 29th overall pick in the first round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft in 1997 and played nine seasons of professional baseball.

Frank Jagoda will serve as the pitching coach on the coaching staff in 2017. Jagoda is in his second year as the Head Coach at Patrick Henry Community College (Martinsville, Va.). He led the Patriots to a program-record 44-16 record and the program's first ever regular season Region X Championship in his first season. Before his time at Patrick Henry, Jagoda served as the pitching coach at Wingate University and as a coach at Canisius College. This year is his second consecutive year working with the 15U National Team program, as he coached at the 2016 15U National Team Trials. He has also assisted at the USA Baseball National Team Championships, the NTIS and the annual USA Baseball Tournament of Stars, which identifies players for the USA Baseball 18U National Team.

Rounding out the 2017 staff is Victor Solis, who will serve as an assistant coach. Currently the head coach at Paradise Valley Community College, Solis has worked with USA Baseball for over 10 years. He was an assistant coach for the 2006 18U National Team before being named manager of the 2007 18U squad. He has also worked at the USA Baseball National Team Championships for more than 10 years, helping identify players for USA Baseball national teams and national team development programs. Solis has over 15 years of coaching experience, including stints at the University of Arizona, the United States Military Academy at West Point, Glendale Community College (Glendale, Ariz.) and GateWay Community College (Phoenix, Ariz.).

The 15U National Team will be selected through a revamped trials system in 2017. 15U Trials will now be split into two phases, starting with Phase 1 from July 30-August 1 and finishing with Phase 2 from August 2-4. Both trials phases will take place at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

Phase 1 will feature 72 players identified from the 2016 NTIS, 2016 14U NTDP, the 2017 National Team Championships and the 2017 NTDP. Thirty-four of those athletes will then be invited to Phase 2 before 20 players will be named to the final roster on August 4. The 2017 15U National Team will then train at the National Training Complex before competing in the 2017 COPABE Pan Am "AA" Championships in Cartagena, Colombia from August 11-20.
