DURHAM, N.C. - USA Baseball announced 54 athletes that have been invited to the 2017 15U National Team Trials on Thursday, following the conclusion of the 15U National Team Championships in Arizona and Florida. Phase 1 of 15U National Team Trials will begin July 30 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

Eighteen additional athletes will receive invitations to join the 15U National Team Trials following the 2017 USA Baseball 14U National Team Development Program (NTDP), finalizing a 72-man roster. Phase 2 of 15U Trials will begin on August 2 and will feature 34 athletes vying for a spot on the final 20-man national team roster.

The 2017 15U National Team will participate in training in Cary, North Carolina, from August 5-8 before traveling to Cartegena, Colombia, for the 2017 COPABE Pan Am "AA" Championships. Team USA is the back-to-back defending champion in the event and will look to qualify for a berth into the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-15 World Cup in 2018.

"Our coaching staff is very happy with the first group of very talented athletes to earn invitations to the 15U National Team Trials," said Ashley Bratcher, Senior Director of Baseball Operations at USA Baseball. "Thirty total athletes on this initial list have prior USA Baseball programming experience, whether it be national team or our national team development program, and we are excited to have those experienced athletes elevate the trials experience.

"Our staff looks forward to scouting the 2017 14U National Team Development Program to finalize our final trials roster and then putting together a team to secure a third consecutive gold medal in the COPABE Pan Am championships."

Eleven USA Baseball national team alumni will compete for another opportunity to wear the red, white and blue, including 2016 15U National Team member Nelson Berkwich (Boca Raton, Fla.). Berkwich won a bronze medal at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-15 World Cup in Iwaki, Japan.

Ten members of the 2014 12U National Team will look to secure a spot on the 15U National Team Roster. Alek Boychuk (Buford, Ga.), Pete Crow-Armstrong (Sherman Oaks, Calif.), Jonathon Cymrot (San Jose, Calif.), Dorian Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.), Jackson Miller (Trinity, Fla.), Robert Moore (Leawood, Kan.), Izaac Pacheco (Friendswood, Texas), Alberto Rios (Bellflower, Calif.), Christian Rodriguez (Corona, Calif.) and Masyn Winn (Kingwood, Texas) all won a silver medal at the 2014 Pan Am "A" Championships in Mazatlan, Mexico.

The athletes selected for the USA Baseball National Team Trials are chosen from the 15U National Team Championships, the USA Baseball 14U National Team Identification Series (NTIS), the NTDP and recommendations from professional scouts and college and high school coaches.

In total, 27 of the 54 invitees have previously participated in the 14U National Team Development Program.

Four-time USA Baseball coaching alum Rob Shabansky will lead Team USA in 2017. Troy Cameron, Frank Jagoda, and Victor Solis will join him on the staff.
