CASTAIC, Calif. - USA Baseball announced the 2017 12U National Team Roster Friday following the completion of 12U National Team Trials in Castaic, California. The 18-man roster will compete at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan, Taiwan, beginning Friday, July 28.

Three members of the 2016 12U National Team will wear the red, white and blue once again in 2017. Kai Caranto (Santa Clarita, Calif.), Owen Egan (Yucaipa, Calif.) and Raffaele Velazquez (Long Beach, Calif.) all won a silver medal in the COPABE Pan Am "A" Championships in Puebla, Mexico, in 2016.

"Our staff has met for hours over the last three days trying to select eighteen kids from an exceptional group of talented athletes and I am very happy with the players that we have chosen to represent Team USA at the Baseball World Cup," said 12U National Team Manager, David Sharp. "Trying to win a gold medal in a foreign country presents adversity to athletes and it takes tremendous physical and mental strength to manage this opportunity. We are confident we have picked an exceptional group of young athletes that will represent themselves, their families and the United States the right way on the international stage."

The 2017 12U National Team will participate in training from July 22-24 at VTV Baseball Complex in Castaic, California. Team USA will take on the Easton Canes in its first exhibition game on Saturday, July 22 at 4:30 p.m. (PT), followed by exhibitions against the Cen Cal Prospects on July 23 at 3:15 p.m. (PT) and Total Baseball Bears on July 24 at 10:15 a.m. (PT).

Following training, Team USA will travel to Tainan, Taiwan for the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup where they will compete for a third consecutive world championship.
