Tiffee leads Team USA to 11-2 victory
The U.S. begins its World Cup title defense in Germany
CARY, N.C. -- Team USA scored two runs in the first inning and followed with nine unanswered to beat Canada, 11-2, Sunday night at Coleman Field at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The U.S. finished exhibition play with a 4-0 record.

Terry Tiffee finished the night 4-4 with two RBI and two doubles to lead the U.S. Buck Coats, Trevor Plouffe and Josh Kroeger finished with three hits apiece for the night and Jon Weber hit a two-run home run over the right field fence in the eighth inning.

USA starter Cory Luebke (1-0) pitched four innings, surrendering one run on four hits for the win. Lucas Harrell, Kasey Kiker, Ehren Wassermann, B.J. Wassermann, and Nate Field combined for five innings of relief.

Team USA and Canada simulated the IBAF International Tie-Break Rule in preparation for the World Cup in the ninth inning. The tie-breaker allows teams to begin its lineup at any place it wishes and place runners at first and second base with no outs.

The U.S. will begin World Cup competition on Sept. 10 against Venezuela as a member of Pool E in Regensburg, Germany. China and Germany are the other two teams in the opening-round pool. The second round of the World Cup will be held across the Netherlands and Italy, with the final rounds being held exclusively in Italy.
