DURHAM, N.C. -- USA Baseball announced Friday that Brant Ust has been hired to serve as the organization's Director of Alumni Relations. Ust comes to USA Baseball from Scout Force where he worked in the sales and marketing department of the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based compliance and recruiting software company. Ust begins work immediately at USA Baseball's executive offices in Durham, N.C.

Ust -- a native of Redmond, Wash., by way of Great Britain and Belgium -- is a two-time USA Baseball alum, having played for the 1998 Collegiate National Team and the 2005 World Cup Team. In his new role with USA Baseball, he will work to develop an alumni association to reconnect USA Baseball with its former players and to help raise awareness of future organizational initiatives.

"The opportunity to add a USA Baseball alum to our office staff is a bit unique, and a person of Brant's experience and character makes it that much more special," said Paul Seiler, USA Baseball Executive Director/CEO. "We're obviously excited to have him join us and we look forward to all of the positive influences he will bring to our organization and athletes."

After playing shortstop for Notre Dame, Ust was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the sixth round of the 1999 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He went on to play nine years of professional baseball with the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, eventually ending his career with the Seattle Mariners in 2008. The following year Ust served as an assistant coach for the University of Michigan baseball team.

Ust lives in Raleigh, N.C. with his wife, Jessica, and their one-year-old son, Gavin.
