Tournament Format (Based on 36 or 48 participating teams at each site)
Pool Play
Each team plays four pool-play games
Forty-eight teams (West) divided into 12 four-team pools by region (e.g. if nine teams from California register, one will be placed in each pool). Thirty-six teams (East) divided into six four-team pools by region.
Each four-team pool plays round-robin (three games)
After three games, 48 teams (West) are seeded Nos. 1-48 and placed into 12 four-team pools again by overall seeding (i.e. Nos. 1-4, Nos. 5-8, etc.). Thirty-six teams (East) are seeded Nos. 1-36 and placed into nine four-team pools
No. 1 plays No. 4, No. 2 plays No. 3, etc. (one game)
Championship Round
After four games, 48 teams (West) will be seeded Nos. 1-48, and the top 16 will advance to the single-elimination championship round with the other 32 teams playing single consolation games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thirty-six teams (East) will be seeded Nos. 1-36, and the top 16 will advance to the single-elimination championship round with the other 20 teams playing consolation games on Tuesday and Wednesday.
