Tournament Format (Based on 72 participating teams at each site)
Pool Play
Each team plays five pool-play games
72 teams divided into 18 four-team pools by region (i.e. if 18 teams from California register, one will be placed in each pool)
Each four-team pool plays round-robin (three games)
After three games, 72 teams are seeded Nos. 1-72 and placed into 18 four-team pools again by overall seeding (i.e. Nos. 1-4, Nos. 5-8, etc.)
No. 1 plays No. 4, No. 2 plays No. 3, etc. (one game)
Winners play, losers play, etc. (one game)
Championship Round
After five games, 72 teams will be seeded Nos. 1-72 and the top 32 will advance to the single-elimination championship round with the other 36 teams playing consolation games
Day One
Thirty-two teams reduced to eight teams by day's end (possible two games per team)
Consolation Round (one game per team)
Day Two
Great Eight & Semifinals (final four)
Consolation Round (one game per team)
Day Three
Bronze- and gold-medal games
