Top pick Cole leads USAB Draftees
17 total alums taken on the first day of MLB Draft
Cole has been with USA Baseball for the past two summers as part of the 2009 and the 2010 Collegiate National Teams. In 2009, he went 4-0 for Team USA with a 1.06 ERA in 34 innings to lead the red, white and blue to a gold medal at the World Baseball Challenge in British Columbia. In his 34 innings of work Cole dominated on the mound only giving up four earned runs while strike out 46 batters. In 2010, he continued his international dominance with a 0.72 ERA in his five appearances. In his gold medal start against Cuba, the dominant righty went seven strong innings giving up no runs and only walking one batter. Team USA ultimately fell to Cuba in extra innings 3-4.
The rest of the 2010 CNT was well represented Monday at the 2011 MLB Draft. Eight more of Cole's teammates heard their names called in the first round. Rounding out the 2010 CNT selections were Anthony Rendon (6th), George Springer (11th), Sonny Gray (18th), Matt Barnes (19th), Tyler Anderson (20th), Sean Gilmartin (28th), Mikie Mahtook (31st) and Jackie Bradley (40th).

Joe Ross made history on Monday as he was the first ever player selected from the 14U National Team program. Ross was on the first ever 14U Team in 2007 as they tried to qualify for the Pan American Tournament later that year. Ross hit .750 at the plate while driving in one RBI in his four plate appearances. In his one inning of work on the mound he allowed no hits as he struck out one batter.
The 16U National Team was represented by Francisco Lindor (8th) and Michael Kelly (48th) who went to the Cleveland Indians and San Diego Padres, respectively. Lindor played for the 2009 16U National Team while Kelly played on the 2008 16U Team.
