In the top of the fifth, the U.S. would get one of those runs back on a sacrifice fly by David Dahl to pull USA to within five, 6-1. However, in the bottom of the inning, UNC-Greensboro would match the run. After a leadoff single, the UNC-Greensboro runner would advance to second, third and home due to three wild pitches, giving UNC-Greensboro a 7-1 lead.

The U.S. would only get one of those runs back the rest of the game. In the top of the seventh, Gavin Cecchini scored on Mikey White's RBI fielder's choice to make it the final score of 7-2.
