SALT LAKE CITY -- In its first game as a team, the USA Baseball Women's National Team routed the Aussie Stars, 15-5. Jill Barrett led the offensive charge with five hits and four RBIs.

Kristin Caldwell (1-0) started for the USA Baseball Women's National Team and pitched three scoreless frames with five punch outs. Alexa Maldonado followed with two shutout innings. Clarisa Navarro was touched for a run in 1 1/3 innings and Anna Kimbrell surrendered four unearned runs in her 1 2/3 innings of work.

Caldwell set the tone for the game as she struck out the side in the first inning. The offense backed her up with two runs in the bottom of the inning and the U.S. never looked back.

Natalie Land worked a lead-off walk and moved to third on a double off the bat of Barrett. A miscue in center field allowed Land to score the first run of the game. Following a Michelle Snyder single that put runners on the corners, Donna Williams made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.

The lead grew to five in the second inning. After working a lead-off walk, Samantha Cobb moved to second with one out and scored on a Navarro base hit. Land walked for the second time and both runners were standing in scoring position for Barrett, who laced a two-run single to center for a 5-0 lead.

In her final inning of work, Caldwell wiggled off the hook after the Aussie Stars loaded the bases with two outs. Tamara Holmes snagged a line drive off the bat of Kaila Borgomastro to keep the Stars off the board.

Another offensive outburst by the Red, White and Blue in the fourth inning stretched the lead to 8-0. Barrett's third hit of the afternoon made it 6-0 and a bases-loaded double from Holmes drove in two.

Three more runs crossed the plate for Team USA in the fifth for an 11-0 lead. Stacy Piagno singled with one out and scored on a ground out. Land scored on base hit off the bat of Barrett to make it 10-0. Williams capped the inning scoring with a two-out RBI single.

The Aussie Stars cracked the scoreboard for the first time in the sixth. With one out Borgomastro walked. She was standing on third with two outs and raced home on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Red, White and Blue extended its lead to 14-1. Barrett's fifth hit of the afternoon led off the inning. With two on and one out, Kayla Bufardeci doubled in two runs and she scored on a base hit off the bat of Malaika Underwood.

The Aussie Stars took advantage of an error to put a four-spot on the board in the eight to pull within 14-5. The big blow was a two-run triple off the bat of Tabitha Callander. Team USA answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to account for the final score.

The two teams will square off again Sunday morning at Noon (ET). The USA Baseball Women's National Team will head to Edmonton, Alberta on Monday morning to prepare for the IBAF World Cup which is slated to begin Aug. 10.
