CARY, N.C. -- The Red team won both games Wednesday afternoon to give it a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Blue team at the 15U trials at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

Game 1: Red 6, Blue 2

The Red team got on the board early in the second inning thanks to Bryan Sturges who led off the inning with a double to left field before eventually stealing third and then home on a failed pick-off attempt to give the squad an early lead, 1-0. The Red team scored one more as Gaby Cruz crossed the plate on an error to give them a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning.

The Red team tacked on two more runs in the top of the third to increase its lead, 4-0, thanks in part to a big triple to right field by Kyle Tucker, to score Isaak Gutierrez, who was then brought in by Sturges on and RBI groundout to first base.

The Blue team answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the third when Chris Cullen hit a line drive to left field to score Nick Anderson and Willie Aguilar to cut into the lead, 4-2. But, the Red team proved to be too much for the Blue squad as it scored two more runs late in the game to take the win, 6-2.

John Aiello picked up the win for the Red team with two hitless innings and two strikeouts, while Nick Sprengel took the loss for the Blue team.

Game 2: Red 4, Blue 3

Cullen picked up where he left off in the first game as he drove in the games first run with an RBI single to left field to score Gutierrez from second. Parker Kelly increased the lead with a double to left field to score Anderson and give the Red team a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the first inning.

In the bottom of the second inning the Blue team responded as Nick Storz led off the inning with a walk followed by Chris Betts who a doubled to right field. With two men in scoring position Blake Rutherford hit a sacrifice fly to center field to cut the lead in half, 2-1. Next up, Nico Hoerner singled to left field to bring home Betts and tie the game, 2-2, heading into the top of the third.

Both teams exchanged runs to keep it tied, 3-3, before Nick Madrigal delivered with an RBI single up the middle to score Danny Casals in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead, 4-3, as Andrew Theron came on in the bottom of the sixth the secure the sweep for the Red team.

Leading the way for the Blue team, Cullen went a combined 3-for-6 with 4 RBI, while Kyle Tucker went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Red team to two victories today.
