DURHAM, N.C. -- The Blue team closed out the 2012 14U National Team Development Program with an 8-1 win over the Red team.
The game was played at Jack Coombs field on the campus of Duke University because of inclement weather at the National Training Complex.
Red scored its only run of the game in the first inning on an RBI groundout from Kyle Mora. Blue answered in the bottom of the first when Austin McNicholas scored on a fielders choice.
McNicholas scored his second run of the game when Jarron Silva lifted a sacrifice fly to center field. In the bottom of the fifth, Silva knocked in his second run of the game on an RBI single to center field.
Dominic Foscalina got in on the action in the bottom of the sixth when he made it a 4-1 game in favor of Blue on an RBI triple.
The Blue team put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh inning when it scored three runs on RBI singles from Michael Richey and Morgan Copeland.
Silva and Christopher Rodriguez stood out for the Blue team as Silva had two RBIs, and Rodriguez had two base hits. For the Red team, Rykker Tom, Cameron Michael, Johnny Mendoza, Justin Ammons and Anthony Acosta each had base hits.
The 14U NTDP officially comes to a close Thursday with player and staff departures.
