2009 World Cup Team set to defend title
USA Baseball has announced the roster of players who will represent the United States at the 2009 IBAF Baseball World Cup in Europe from Sept. 9-27. The 2009 World Cup is the 38th installment of the IBAF's biennial world championships. The roster features veterans like 08 Olympian Terry Tiffee along with top prospects including Pedro Alvarez and Justin Smoak. 16U National Team wins IBAF Worlds
Trailing 6-5 in the top of the ninth, Team USA scored two runs and then closed out the bottom half of the inning to capture the gold medal at the 2009 IBAF 'AA' World Youth Championships with a 7-6, come-from-behind win over Cuba in Taiwan in August. The title was the fourth consecutive international gold medal for Team USA, and, in the last four years, the United States 16U National Team is 31-0 in tournament competition.
