In 2016, USA Baseball will utilize a rolling invitation process for the players named to the Women's National Team Program. Up to 40 players will be identified for the 2016 Women's National Team Program through the 2015 USA Baseball National Team Identification Series (NTIS), 2016 USA Baseball Women's National Open, video submission, and by recommendations from scouts, college and high school coaches and the women's baseball community. As players are named to the team, USA Baseball will publicize the announcement(s) through a press release and/or by post to USABaseball.com.
The primary identification vehicle for the 2016 USA Baseball Women's National Team Program will be the Women's National Open, to be held June 10-12 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. From the Women's National Open, a minimum of 25 players will be invited to the Women's National Team Trials. The Women's National Open is a free three-day event run by Women's National Team coaches and staff in an effort to identify the nation's top female baseball players. The 2016 Women's National Team will be for players born in the year 2000 or older.
Players 16 and under (born in the year 2000 or later) are encouraged to attend the two-day Women's Development Camp, to be held just prior to the Women's National Team Trials, Aug. 20-21. The Women's Development Camp provides USA Baseball with an advanced look at the upcoming class of top players at the 14U, 15U and 16U age levels while providing the athletes with extensive instruction to better develop their game. Players 16 years of age and younger may register to participate in the Women's Development Camp.
